Founded in Nottingham, Papplewick Driving School has grown with a mission to empower drivers through supportive, personalised tuition. We value patience, professionalism, and adaptability, ensuring each learner or professional driver receives the care and skills needed to drive confidently and safely.
Your ADI Instructor
Hi, I’m David, your local automatic driving instructor.
I’m a fully qualified and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with a background as an ex-police driver. My previous experience has given me advanced driving skills, strong hazard awareness, and a calm, methodical approach to teaching.
I specialise in automatic cars — so there are no gears and no clutch to worry about. This allows you to focus fully on steering, road positioning, observation, and building confidence behind the wheel. I also have a manual car so you can try both to see what you prefer.
As well as teaching learner drivers, I’m also an experienced HGV instructor. That means I bring a wider understanding of road safety, larger vehicles, blind spots, and defensive driving techniques into every lesson — helping you become not just a test-ready driver, but a safe driver for life.
I’m friendly, patient and supportive. I understand that learning to drive can feel daunting at first, so lessons are always structured at your pace, in a calm and encouraging environment.
